so I really tried to be prepared for the first day of kindergarten, but as I was rushing out of my house with 5 minutes until the bell would ring I had to reevaluate my strategy. I thought if I finished feeding the baby at 8:40 that would give me enough time to get there by 8:50 ... right!! so we get to the school in the pouring rain and I have to cart my baby (in his carseat), mason and ethan out of the car and across the crosswalk as quick as I can because as I mentioned before ... we were running a little late. So, I get into the classroom with Mason and the baby and I quickly look for ethan so I can show him where he needs to put his back pack and come sit down ... well, I can't find ethan anywhere. I go back outside to see if he's out there and he's not. He's gone into the other kindergarten class:) so i get him into his classroom, run him to his chair, give him a quick kiss and as I'm leaving I realize that I didn't fill out his "getting to know you paper and attach a picture", which most of the other kids in the class had sitting in front of them!!!! I'm already not turning in homework (when did this become about me and how could I be failing already?)
I didn't even have a chance to feel sad about him being in kindergarten because I'm was in too big of a hurry. After I had left the school and had run home to grab his/my homework and had filled it out and had run it back to the school and decided that I couldn't go give it to him because I didn't want to interrupt his class ... that is when it hit me that I no longer have 24/7 access to my child and I have to say I did tear up a little thinking about it.
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day
Maybe tomorrow I won't hear a wispered "I don't want to go to school"
Maybe tomorrow it won't be raining
but maybe tomorrow my little boy will be all grown up :-(
